Tell us more about your company or organization! For those getting to know you for the first time, share what you absolutely want them to know in 2-3 sentences.
We are a group of experienced business lawyers providing practical legal advice and strategic thinking to entrepreneurs seeking to develop their ideas. We help them avoid costly legal mistakes and seize available opportunities in a cost-effective manner.
What are the top reasons you joined TechUnited? How can you help other members, and how can other members help you?
We joined to find and interact with the type of innovative entrepreneurs and companies for whom our combination of legal and business experience provides a great value add to them. Our focus is not just on legal excellence but also on the practical needs of the clients we serve.
What motivated you to start your company or organization and how do you differentiate yourself from the competition?
When I left the Johnson & Johnson Law Department after more than 30 years of supporting innovative life sciences companies and IT operations, I saw that much of the innovation in those areas was moving to smaller, creative, nimble companies with great ideas. I could see they could benefit from the “big company” perspective on their operations from experienced lawyers who listen well and take into account the unique needs of the businesses they serve.
What new technology are you excited about? And how do you stay innovative in your role?
As a member of the Board of Trustees of Stevens Institute of Technology and of the Board of Directors of Ben Franklin Technology Partners, I have the advantage of seeing some truly innovative ideas. Chief among them are quantum computing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, virtual reality, advances in protein chemistry and cell biology, gene and cell therapy, and a greater understanding of human biochemistry. We have clients in a number of these areas.
For our operations, we use Cloud-based systems that we believe are cyber-secure and which provide ready access to the resources we need to serve our clients. The advances in communication forced upon us by the pandemic turned out to be great sources of enhanced efficiency – and we like that.
What is that one piece of advice you would share with other entrepreneurship enthusiasts in the community?
Don’t try to do it all yourself. Diverse teams beat individual efforts and provide enormous opportunities for vetting and enhancing ideas.
What’s your go-to conversation starter or #1 fun fact about your company or career?
I always like to ask people what they like most about their job or what they’re doing — and why. When I deal with creative people, I hear some interesting and sometimes heart-warming responses.
