AI Innovation Takes Center Stage as Stevens Institute Hosts AI Demo Night #1

Hoboken, NJ – January 23, 2024 – Stevens Institute of Technology’s UCC Building transformed into a hub of innovation on January 23rd as BetterFutureLabs and TechUnited:NJ co-hosted their inaugural AI Demo Night (RSVP here for future events), featuring groundbreaking demos from three startups advancing artificial intelligence.

The event, which drew a crowd of technology enthusiasts and industry professionals, spotlighted AI’s practical applications across medical research, healthcare diagnostics, and personal photography.

Fireside Chat on AI Super Agents

The night kicked off with a fireside chat featuring Justin Trugman, Head of Technology at BetterFutureLabs, who shared insights on the evolving role of AI super agents.

“AI agents have tools, but they also have personalities. We tweak the way agents talk to each other — they have their own communication styles. It’s much more than just a language model,” Trugman explained.

Featured Startup Demos

The night showcased three startups using artificial intelligence to tackle real-world challenges:

  • BioProxalMichael Moschello presented a cutting-edge artificial intelligence model that can predict asthma attacks up to five minutes in advance using smartwatch data and machine learning. This is about “knowing when an attack is coming before it even happens,” Moschello shared. With an impressive 95% accuracy rate, BioProxal’s technology has the potential to transform asthma management for the 25 million Americans affected by the condition.
  • AI PhotoPhotoKevin Urrutia introduced a platform that leverages artificial intelligence to generate high-quality, photos from everyday photos. “The nice thing about this photo model is that we’re using is we’re using Flux 1.1 Pro, which is the newest generation model, and it really helps out because the photos are super realistic,” Urrutia noted. AI PhotoPhoto enables users to create polished images for LinkedIn profiles, graduation photos, and more — without ever stepping into a studio.
  • JoriBryan Kyritz, co-founder of Jori, showcased an AI-powered platform designed to revolutionize cancer research by unifying disparate healthcare data sources. “Build a layer that enables the connectivity of all these systems while maintaining health environments, that would enable researchers to access population scale insights and have AI, drive new research.,” Kyritz explained. By integrating population-scale insights, Jori is helping scientists accelerate discoveries in cancer treatment.

Engaging the Community & Looking Ahead

The night wrapped up with an interactive audience choice awards session, where attendees engaged directly with the startups and discussed potential collaborations over networking opportunities.
