QSBS is finally real in NJ.

UPDATE: GOVERNOR MURPHY HAS SIGNED THESE INTO LAW ON MIDNIGHT ON 6/25/2025!

Over the last two years, TechUnited:NJ has been championing policies to make NJ a more welcoming place for startups and investors.

I’m so proud to share we’ve hit two enormous milestones:

✅ 1) QSBS
45 states across the country already recognize QSBS (Qualified Small Business Stock) to help fuel startup growth.

After an enormous effort from TechUnited:NJ and our partners, NJ is now on the path to joining them. A bill to recognize QSBS has passed both the NJ Assembly and NJ Senate, and now awaits Governor Murphy’s signature to become law.

✅ 2) Angel Investor Tax Credit
NJ has had an angel investor tax credit, but after significant research, we found that at 20%, it was under market, with the national average at 34%.

We’re excited to share that, following TechUnited’s advocacy, the NJ Assembly and NJ Senate have passed an expanded 35% angel investor tax credit to help drive more early-stage investment. This too awaits Governor Murphy’s signature to become law.

These wins wouldn’t be possible without:

The hundreds of entrepreneurs and investors who signed on ✍️

Partner organizations like NJBIA and NJCPA 🤝

Champions in Trenton like Assemblyman Chris Tully, Senator Andrew Zwicker, Senator Paul Sarlo, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, and Senator Raj Mukherji 🙌

Speaker Craig Coughlin and Senate President Nick Scutari 🏛️

Governor Murphy, Tim Sullivan, and Eric Brophy 🥅

As someone who’s been an entrepreneur in NJ for most of my life, and leading the tech community here for over 15 years, I don’t just see this as an achievement today. To me, this is a legacy of our Community that will help thousands of future founders for years to come.

We eagerly and enthusiastically support Governor Murphy to sign these both into law.

There’s still more work ahead, but these milestones send a clear message:

NJ is stepping up to be a true home for founders and investors.

Thank you for being part of this movement.
